November 2021

The highlight of November was Thanksgiving.  The OB who delivered Owen is stationed here as a geo bachelor so we invited him so Owen was super excited to meet the doctor that delivered him.  The doctor is a great guy too so it was really fun to see him again.  We also had Damon's dive buddy over.  The meal was ordered from the Hilton hotel that was not all that spectacular and Damon was rather unimpressed with the quantity of food. November was my full month of classes and I am back into college gear with presentations and essays.  I really enjoy one of the professors who is very experienced and is an excellent teacher by example as well.  Milton had a thanksgiving concert that we could watch with Zoon and Rod and Ileene could call in too which is something otherwise not possible.  Milton is thankful for family, school, soccer, and (most importantly) his treasure chest. His favorite restaurant is Jeff’s Pirate Cove. The food isn’t all that excellent, but any restaurant with a pirate ship in the back gets major points in Milton’s book. Milton loves his soccer team on Saturdays. Owen continues to do great in school and has started riding his 24" bike and going even faster! He is continuing with his weekly piano lessons as well. The boys love going to the pool next to our house and also the pool section of Gab Gab beach.  Owen is super brave jumping off the edge about 8 feet into the water. An aircraft carrier came for a port call and it was fun seeing all the sailors around the base and the island.  It's hard to hide 5,000 people on an island this small.  There were buses all over the place so they could get a much-deserved break. Next is Christmas!

Halloween 2021

Milton was an astronaut, Owen was a fireman, Damon was Forrest Gump, and I was Ms. Frizzle. Besides the temperature being in the low 80s, the biggest new celebration we did was paint some coconuts.  The crews were going around trimming the coconut trees so I was able to rescue some before they got taken away.  Damon and the boys did get pumpkins at the commissary that were covered in mold the next morning.  I had to use a shovel to scoop the pumpkin goo into a trash bag a couple days later. I heard that you can carve the pumpkins and then put them in a rinse of bleach water to keep them better.  I like painting coconuts. The official policy was trick or treating allowed on base, just that passing out the candy had to be done from the driveway.  I like that method as it was easier to see which house was open for candy.  Our full-size bars were scooped up pretty quick.  When we got back we put some of the candy from the boys' buckets out there too.  Milton's favorite decoration was a skeleton pirate ship blow up a couple streets away from us.  One of the base fire trucks was at the school parking lot that the kids got to sit in the driver's seat.
