May 2019

This month marks the beginning of being homeless. The movers came on May 23 and were able to pack up and load the truck on the same day. They even drove the truck down that evening to the storage facility in Jacksonville. Technically our lease doesn't conclude until May 31 so I guess not totally homeless until June 1. Probably the hardest part of moving was saying goodbye to our weekly recycling truck pickup guys. We have had the same crew since we first moved in and they would always honk the horn for the kids. We will also miss our neighbors across the street with kids pretty much the exact same age. On to new adventures! Milton is making excellent progress speaking. He likes to say "good job" and "mama come". His 'guinea pig' noises are toning down and he is doing more narration type things. He had his last speech therapy appointment and his teacher has been very happy with all his progress since she first began working with him. Owen is continuing to thrive in school with his classmates and teachers. He will really miss his school and teachers, but going to Kindergarten would have been a school change anyway. I will miss Ayrlawn, for sure. Owen's favorite activity is the private swim lessons with Mr. David. He even will ask what day it is to see if it is Sunday when he has his lessons. Owen can swim on his own, but that confidence has led him to be a bit too confident with jumping in the pool without me or Damon than I would like. Owen wants to swim, and then Milton wants to go play at the little playground next to the pool. But then when we are at my mom's house Milton wants to stay in the backyard and Owen wants to go inside with his magtiles. My mom's fenced yard is Milton's favorite place to be. He will walk all around the plants and behind the shed and then play with the fleet of diggers in the new raised bed by the house. Milton will get very mad if you try to take off his shoes when going inside. Owen also loves his soccer games. I am sure we will find him something else to sign up for once we are down in NC, but I don't want to specifically pursue soccer. It is remarkable how intense some parents get, it is a bunch of 4-5 year old kids...lighten up. Kory, Zara and Aliya came for a weekend where we went to the Marine Corps Museum. The kids all did really great playing together and it was wonderful to spend the weekend with Kory. As an interesting coincidence Rosy's husband was in town from Panama for the week so we had him over to dinner one night. It has been 7 years since we graduated together.
