Saipan, CNMI

We took one of our long weekends and flew to Saipan for the weekend.  It was an insanely early flight on Saturday so we had the whole day to explore.  We got a rental car since the sights on the island are pretty far apart. We went to the Last Japanese Command Post, Suicide Cliff, Banzai Cliff, The Blue Grotto, Kalabera Cave, and the American Memorial Park.  Probably my favorite part was getting the NPS stamp for Saipan CNMI.  I made sure to get an extra one for my mom to put in her collection. Milton and Owen got their Junior Ranger badges for the American Memorial Park. It is rather out of the way to include Saipan in National Park travel sites. I really liked the Flying Proa replica ride too.  I had just a few weeks earlier done a presentation for my Guam history class about the Flying Proa so getting to see one in person was really neat. Owen and Milton's favorite part was the ice cream and playing at the hotel pool and beach. Damon's favorite part was the Blue Grotto.  It is a cool diving site too but he didn't bring any of his diving gear. It was a fun weekend.
