The George Washington Birthplace National Monument is located in the Northern Neck of Virginia and was established in the 17th century by George Washington's great-grandfather. Many of the original buildings had not survived, so in 1931 a memorial house was built on the grounds in the architectural style that it would have been during George Washington's time. Several years later, archaeologists and historians figured out that the house George Washington was born in was actually 100 feet away from the memorial house. There is an outline of where the correct house placement is on the ground. The monument itself is a one-tenth scale replica of the Washington Monument on the National Mall. The part is pretty big at 600 acres and has livestock and fully functional gardens and crops to show what the plantation would have been like in years past. Owen loved to see the horses and play in the gravel on the pathways.
