Damon is finally back from the Nimitz. He left on December 30th and returned on February 10th. We are so excited to have him back home!!!! Milton celebrated his 100th day of school and I was pretty excited he could re-use the same shirt from last year. This was a pretty boring month for me, but good to be unemployed at the same time as Damon being away so I didn't go too nuts. I interviewed on February 8th with Jose Rios Middle School so my application with GDOE is progressing. I am still processing my DoDEA substitute application simultaneously so we will see who gets things processed first.

Thousand Steps
Thousand steps is a well-defined trail down to the coastline. The actual number of steps is more in the 300 range, but they are slightly precarious with salt damage over the years. In October 2022 there was an eagle scout project that cleaned up the area and put up a nice sign. The boys liked to explore the coast but it was a bit tricky because the plants would grow up on the rocks and it was very easy (Milton did this in the 7th picture) to step into a hole when it looks flat with the plants. The water was very rough so the waves were crashing pretty high. It was a high surf advisory day. We went with several other families after school on Friday so it was fun to have other kids to hang out with. And other adults so that the front and rear of the line was covered. Owen was slightly grumpy about going on a hike, but he ended up enjoying himself. Milton is a super trooper hiker guy.

Fai Fai Caves
The Fai Fai Beach Caves are between Gun Beach and Tanguisson Beach. Our hike books only list the hike between the two beaches and don't mention the cave. A lady in the neighborhood put together a facebook group for all things kid-friendly hikes and this event had about 20 people join in. It was great to have other adults, especially getting across the broken bridge section. Inside the cave was a pool with cool water. It was a good thing I had the hiking backpack because we had some flashlights inside. Also, I got slammed with water getting back through the broken bridge section. We were drenched head to toe, but it was better than getting all sweaty and covered with mosquitoes.
