Ocean City and Assateague Island, Maryland

Ocean City is a beach town in Maryland that has over 300,000 visitors during summer weekends. We visited over Memorial Day weekend so it was pretty crowded with being the official opening of the summer season. This year, my birthday was on Memorial Day. The water was a bit cold, but Owen was so happy to be playing in the sand again. When we were in Rota we would go to the beach every day. Owen’s favorite part of Ocean City was the water park just down the street. The water there was a bit cold too, but Owen did fine with his life jacket adding an extra layer of insulation. This was Milton’s first overnight trip away from home. We also visited the barrier island Assateague Island. It crosses state borders so that half is in Maryland and the southern half is in Virginia. We were able to go to both the VA and MD visitor centers so I got my stamps.

Manassas NBP, Virginia

Manassas is the closest civil war battlefield to us, and is a nice little day trip.  This was Milton's first adventure which he spent much of it asleep.  But that's a happy baby! There were two battles that occurred here.  The first battle was on July 21, 1861 with heavy fighting on both sides that made apparent this would not be a quick war.  Then again in August 1862, Union and Confederate armies converged where the Confederates won a solid victory bringing them to the height of their power.

May 2017

May has been another fun month.  We made our first day trip with Milton to Manassas National Battlefield.  Milton will become a lover of National Parks just like his mother :) For Memorial Day and my birthday we spent the weekend at Ocean City.  The water was a bit chilly, but Owen loved being back in the sand.  We spent one of the days at the water park too which Owen loved.  I am starting to feel better and with the weather getting warmer it is was good all around.

With the receipt of Milton's Social Security card and his Maryland birth certificate, he is completely legal. The next step is to get his passport, but with only the birth certificate he is ready to go for our flight out to Wyoming this summer. My favorite accomplishment for Milton this month is him starting to smile.  Although, I think more enjoyable is his waning colic episodes.  We had his two month checkup and he is weighing in in the 80th percentile and then in height he is in the upper 70s. I can barely keep up with getting him in clothes that fit properly.  We are already into the 3-6 month clothing.

Owen's daycare had an International Day where his class represented Morocco.  Both of his teachers are from Morocco.  There was also a part where the parents brought food from their native country. We brought Manchego cheese and olives to represent Spain.  That is Owen's native country! After I pick up Owen at 12:30 p.m. we go to the park right next to his school where he loves to climb on a rock mound thing and also run around the merry-go-round.  He loves the seesaw too.
