Cedar Creek Battlefield Reenactment, Virginia

The battle of Cedar Creek took place on October 19, 1864 and is considered a Union victory. At the conclusion of this battle, the final Confederate invasion of the North was effectively ended. The Confederacy was never again able to threaten Washington, D.C. through the Shenandoah Valley, nor protect one of its key economic bases in Virginia. The stunning Union victory aided the reelection of Abraham Lincoln and won Sheridan lasting fame. This reenactment was of a couple different battles that took place in the Shenandoah Valley campaign.  All the people who get decked out in their civil war gear is fun to see.  Among the cacophony of a cannon and rifle battle, Milton fell asleep.  I had my hands over his little ears to possibly mitigate any damage.  On the edge of the battlefield is a really great fried chicken and BBQ ribs restaurant that we had lunch at.  We stopped there before on our way down to the Massanutten Resort.
