Luray Caverns, Virginia

Luray Caverns is located in northern Virginia about 2 hours away. It was first discovered in 1878 with the explorer following the cool air. The temperature inside the caverns is uniformly 54 °F. The caverns are perhaps best known for the Great Stalacpipe Organ, a lithophone made from solenoid-fired strikers that tap stalactites of various sizes to produce tones similar to those of xylophones, tuning forks, or bells. Luray claims to have fueled the first air conditioned home in 1901. Since the air inside the cave is always in the 50s, the home dropped a pipe into the cave with a fan that would pull the air up into the house. It makes for an excellent winter destination since indoor activities are more difficult to find than outdoor stuff. The cavern gets approximately 500,000 guests visit each year. Owen struggled with being told to not touch anything, but otherwise it was a fun visit.

March 2018

The biggest accomplishment of March 2018 is Milton's first birthday!

Owen is doing very well in school and this month had his school concert.  Owen was the one "dancing kid" in the group.  I am so proud he was getting down with his bad self. Anything with music Owen will announce "dance mommy".  He loves his gymnastic classes and is getting much better following directions. Owen's favorite toys are still his Tonka trucks.

Milton is now an avid crawler and you can hear him coming the way that he will slap his hands on the floor. One of Milton's favorite toys is Owen's puzzle. He loves dumping out the pieces and spreading them all over the floor. He is steadily saying mama and dada.  All food he loves and has mastered the straw cup skill.  We can now graduate him to regular milk too. His favorite foods are eggs and ice cream. Many times Milton will eat more at a sitting than Owen! A definite personality difference there. He has eight teeth. At his nine month visit he had seven teeth so these past three months have grown one tooth.
