August 2021

August was very eventful! The first two weeks were in Wyoming, then we travelled to Guam, and the end of the month was in Guam. It was a rather epic several days of travel.  We got a two bedroom house that was really great to have space for the kids.  Damon and I did not need to quarantine, but we were told that the kids would have to for 5 days, then could get another test in order to get out.  Upon talking with other people once we got out that was not the case.  The first 5 days at Guam was very unpleasant not only with the jet lag, but being stuck inside.  We were able to get a rental car so we could at least get some errands done.  For 2 weeks we also had the where-will-we-live drama.  We were offered 4 houses initially on base but they all had issues.  We looked off base as well to see what our OHA would pay for.  It is apparently a low inventiry right now so the houses we saw were equally unimpressive.  We were getting prepared to accept one of the original houses but then was offered one of the newly renovated houses in the neighborhood that the boys' school is in! We got the keys on August 31st, and then had the household goods delivered on September 1st.  Also at the end of August we were reunited with Beulah! The POVs are shipped over here inside shipping containers.  Which totally makes sense upon thinking about it, but it is still weird seeing a car driven out of one of the containers.  The containers are enormous. Owen started school while we were still at the hotel house so he got to ride the bus for a week and a half which he was really stoked about.  Milton started school once we were in our house. Both of their teachers seem really kind and the school is very clean and well-maintained. Owen's teacher takes pictures of the kids during the day so I get to see some of the activities that Owen does during the day. To get to Owen's drop off door is only a 5 minute bike ride.  Milton gets dropped off on the other side of the building directly to his pre-k classroom.  The beaches on base are really pretty and Owen likes swimming around.  We are getting him some perscription snorkeling goggles so the sweet boy can actually see some of the fish.  Milton likes playing in the sand, but is getting more interested in going into the water. It rains every day.  And then at unpredictable times.  It would be a total dounpour, but then 500 feet away totally dry.  I haven't found any weather prediction applications that are accurate.  If I am looking at the doppler while I am getting rained on and there is no green, then that's a problem.  I've heard that there are 4 methods to deal with the rain (1) carry an umbrella at all times (2) run for it (3) wait it out (4) get drenched and accept always having wet shoes. We seem to get getting to that last method.  Going around mostly naked totally makes sense to dry off faster. We've tried some nearby hikes that were very muddy and slippery.  We are hoping for better hiking once we get out of the rainy season. Our chapel is just 10 minutes away and is a really attractive chapel.  It is separate structures with covered walkways between the different areas.  The chapel itself has windows so we can look out the window.  Now that we have a chapel with windows I wonder why more don't have them.  Getting acclimated to out new home is going to take a bit of time, but we are making progress.

July 2021 - Wyoming

Another action-packed summer in Star Valley! We went to Bear Lake, the Cabin, Fossil Butte and the Heber Creeper Train. The water at Bear Lake was so low we had to drive way out on the beach to get to the water. Hard to summarize a summer in words! Damon had his 20th high school reunion, my cousin Kristi got married, Finnegan had his baby blessing, both boys did swim lessons, and lots of playing time with Kaylee and Finnegan. Trent's dad sadly passed awaybut I was grateful that we could be there to support Trent. My mom also came out for a week for Kristi's wedding but then also up to Afton for a bit.  We did a hike up to Crystal Lake. Milton is obsessed with pirates and pirate treasure so he got a few more treasure chests. One even got buried in the trench Damon dug for our electrical connection for the garage in lot 46. Owen's birthday was once again at the Meadow and typically when asked when his birthday is he says "in Wyoming". Something we need for Owen to get straight. Damon and I did lots of little projects around the house which will be in a separate post. Damon and Rod did their huge hike to Gannett Peak and did great! Both were relieved to have it finished. Being able to spend so much time with all the Jensen family is such a blessing. Once in Guam it will be barely once per year that we can make that journey back to the mainland. Especially with our terrible experience getting to Guam in the first place. Flying commercial should be less dramatic though. They will probably have better functioning airplanes than the military.
