This summer we traveled about 8,800 miles total. Probably to 9,000 with any additional day trips and driving to Salt Lake City. The boys and I drove from Camp Lejeune to Bethesda on June 13th. Then the rest of the travels were via airplane. We flew to Salt Lake City on July 3rd. Damon drove the Focus from Camp Lejeune to Afton where it will live for the next three years. The van went from the Vehicle Processing Center in Baltimore via truck to Camden where it got on an ocean vessel to get to Guam. Our household goods did about the same finally making their way to Guam via vessel. In total, we had five suitcases and car seats. The final leg of the journey was rather epic taking several days. On August 12th, it was Salt Lake City to Seattle which was an uneventful short flight. Then at 0100 the next morning we reported to the military travel desk for the 0700 flight to Guam. After getting the luggage checked in and finding a bench to sleep on we were told at 0430 that the flight was delayed 16 hours and we got a voucher for a hotel and some meal passes. We reported back to the terminal at 1800 where the flight departed at 2100. It was a three-hour flight to Fairbanks where we had to get off the airplane and I took a surprisingly restful nap on the floor of the waiting area for a couple hours. Then a final 10-hour flight to Guam. Once we landed (On August 15th) they took several hours to get all the luggage off and we met up with our sponsor so he could drive us to our hotel. That journey is one that is not easily done too many times. Guam is a 14 hour time difference from Afton and 16 hours from Bethesda and then also crossing the dateline. Overall the kids did really great and I am super proud of how well they have handled this massive move. We moved into the new house on September 1st. Grand total 80 days of homelessness. The van traveled across the ocean inside a shipping container. Everything arrives by container so we have seen stores and even houses made from shipping containers.
