Havre de Grace, Maryland

We met Kory at Havre de Grace which is the northern most tip of the Chesapeake Bay. We visited a Chesapeake Bay museum and the Concord Point lighthouse. The lighthouse overlooks the Susquehanna River where it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. It was constructed in 1827 when there was an increased traffic flow down the Susquehanna. The lighthouse is 36 feet tall constructed of Port Deposit granite. The walls are 31 inches thick at the base and 18 inches at the parapet. It is the second oldest tower lighthouse still standing on the Chesapeake Bay. The lantern was originally lit with 9 whale oil lamps with 16-inch tin reflectors. In 1854, a sixth-order Fresnel lens was installed. This was later upgraded to a fifth-order Fresnel lens. The lighthouse was automated in 1920.

Antietam Pry House Field Hospital, Maryland

The Pry house is near the Antietam battlefield.  It served as Union Commander General George B. McClellan's headquarters during the battle of Antietam. The larger rooms were the hospital and surgery rooms during that bloody battle.

Hershey Park, Pennsylvania

We spent the weekend at Hershey Park near Harrisburg in Pennsylvania. The park was Founded in 1906 by Milton S. Hershey, as a leisure park for the employees of the Hershey Chocolate Company. As of 2016, its area covers over 110 acres, containing 70 rides and attractions, as well as a zoo. It was rainy, but Owen still went on as many rides as we would allow him to go. We also visited Hershey’ Chocolate World where we saw the animation ride that showed how the chocolate is made.

September 2018

The biggest family news for September is that Owen and Milton's new girl cousin was born on September 18th.  We went over to give Rory his birthday present (the 29th) and Owen didn't even notice the new baby.  The toys are far more interesting. Owen and Milton love playing with playdoh.  Owen always wants me to make a truck for him and then he goes around with it playing with his truck. Both the kids did great getting their hair cut this month.  Owen giggled and said "it tickles".  Milton even went up in the chair by himself.

Owen is getting dressed on his own for the most part.  It does involve significant reminding for him to stay on task.  His manor of removing his clothes is fascinating.  Who wants do to things the easy way? Owen's teacher has a letter per week and then on Monday they all get little worksheets to take home to practice.  Owen is getting the hang of the letters. Our neighbor across the parking lot had a birthday party that Owen was invited to held at Cabin John Park with the train station.  The kids didn't get to go on the train because it was raining, but they got to sit on it still in the garage.  Owen's favorite part was the magician who was incredibly awful, but Owen thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Milton is still rocking out at eating anything and everything.  He moves around wonderfully and his walking is very smooth.  His stair skills are my favorite though. Milton loves to take showers instead of a bath.  He likes to just stand under the stream of water or push his hippo figurine around the tile ledge in the doorway. He is a very happy little guy.  Still not much to say other than mama and the occasional dada.
