Anchor Projects 2020

I was pretty busy with house projects this summer. The largest project being removing and replacing the caulk between the siding sheets all around the house. We will most likely paint the house either next summer or the year after. The other big project was fixing the sagging front steps.  Fortunately the poor original construction made for a much easier repair than we were worried it would take.  The bookshelves in the living room were done by Dan Galloway during the Spring or cherry.  They turned out really nice.  And we have room to spare! I also cleared out the small bookshelves in the bedrooms.  My other projects were putting in the closet shelving in the hall closet.  I had been waiting to put this one in last until I felt that I knew how the closet would be used.  It has hanging space on one side for coats but then shelves everywhere else.  The left side has space that we will eventually put some sort of dresser for the gloves and hats.  I also added in some new shelves for the boys' rooms since they really won't need as much hanging space as I had originally put in.  My two exciting purchases were to get a rowing machine and a sewing machine.  The rower was on a huge back order because of covid so I had been on the wait list since April or so.  My new sewing machine is much bigger than my one from 2000.  I will for sure be keeping both of them forever, but it is really fun that I have one in Wyoming so I can working on quilting while I am there over the summer.  This summer I was able to put a new backing and batting on Joyce's blue quilt and get most of the tying done.  I also put on a new backing, batting, binding and re-quilted the little brown quilt.  I also repaired a quilt of Rod's that was really cool which was made by his great grandmother.  It had gone through several repairs before, but my stitching was over everything not just the torn areas.  I also put on a new binding to hold the edges together.  Not a quilt for the boys to jump on or drag around, but fun to have as a bedspread for the family connection.  It was really cool to feel apart of that family history all working on the same quilt.  I also made a new quilt from some super fun jelly roll sets I found in Idaho Falls.  I brought that quilt back to NC for it to be used as a fort and drag around quilt.  The other large project was weeding and otherwise tending to the trees around the yard.  They are all doing really well.  I also covered up the gap from the warping fireplace mantel.  That may be something that will get totally replaced in years to come, probably done by Dan Galloway. A pretty productive summer!
