Kiel, Germany

September 5, 2015

Kiel holds a lot of traditional maritime and naval history for Germany. It was almost completely destroyed during World War II. One of the few remaining historical pieces was a very plain St. Nikolai Lutheran church.  St. Nikolai is 750 years old and was the city's only parish church until 1875.  The building was restored in 1949 with a slightly more plain apperance than the original. Now Kiel it is a main cruise ship hub with 6 slips. The Main Street has been converted into an expensive pedestrian shopping street. Kiel also has a U-995 submarine used in the German Kriegsmarine from 1943 to 1945.
