Gadao Cave

Gadao's cave is near Inarajan just about 45 minutes from base.  This was another hike with many other families.  We walked along the leveled cliff over to the small cave.  Wearing close-toed shoes and gloves was incredibly helpful.  Those limestone rocks are very sharp. The cave was included on the US National Register of Historical Places in 1974.  The pictographs are from Guam's Latte Era between 800 and the Spanish arrival in 1521.  A more exact date is difficult to attain because of the weathering from the saltwater on the limestone.  The ink was formulated from white lime that was able to chemically bond to the rock to be able to survive thousands of years of weathering. The cave is named after one of Guam's most legendary chiefs.
