The Carnival at Cadiz is one of the most famous in Spain. What makes the Cadiz carnival unique is that they focus on satire more than glamour seen in other carnival celebrations around the world. The purpose of carnival is a huge party prior to Lent typically in areas with a high Catholic population. The celebration includes dressing up in various costumes and having a huge street party, often including a parade. The parade in Cadiz is what we went to. It was a parade unlike I have ever seen before. The floats were very intricate and looked expensive to make. There was a ton of confetti and willy string too. Almost all of the kids were dressed up in what I would classify as Halloween costumes. Lots of super heroes and princesses. All over the city were around 10 person choirs that were singing home-spun songs making fun of something. As all of it was in Spanish, I'm going off of the crowd reactions that the song was humorous. Drinking and partying is the name of the game for the adults. A cool experience, but I kinda doubt that we will go again. TONS of people and the only reason that we could easily get there was on a MWR tour bus. The ferries were shut down due to high winds so we would either have to get a taxi, take the train to Puerto and then a taxi, or take a long-ass walk.
